6 President Township Volunteers attended a MERIT training course on March 21-22. Over 100 police, fire, and EMS personnel attended the training. All felt it was a tremendous learning experience and appreciate Jake Kelton and all those involved in holding this class.
Those attending were instructed on how to recognize different types of methamphetamine labs, the hazards associated, and the techniques used to investigate them. Instructor; Jake Kelton and his team, also discussed the role each department plays on a lab scene and their importance, decon efforts, and common misconceptions concerning methamphetmine. At the end of the class students were able to recognize common household products used for the methamphetmine production and what they role they played in the process as well as the dangers associated with each of them. This was a 16 hour certificate training program consisting of one day of classroom instruction including more than 1000 pictures and videos and one day of practical hands-on training which was not offered to the general public. Members received the MERIT Training Manual, specific to emergency response personnel, laminated MERT Field Guide, and MERIT Quick Reference Card, for easy decontamination, and the MERIT CD, containing videos, posters, and response documentation
